Another fascinating thing to do in Varanasi is to take a long stroll around the city, and visit one of the most sacred Hindu temples – the Golden Temple – and scout for ancient mosques. This is a walking guided tour lasting 3 hours, to the Golden Temple, which is done twice daily: once at 8 am and once at 4 pm – take your pick and unearth a world adorned with myth, epics and legends. The walk starts from Godowila Crossing, and takes you to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, also known as the Golden Temple. It is known to be the most important Lord Shiva temple in India, located in Gautameshwar Mahadev. You can learn much about the history and origin of Hinduism here, as well as seeing the epics that portray the stories of Lord Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu. Traipse through the concealed and confined lanes of Kashi to delve into the peace and tranquillity that resides here. See how different cultures and beliefs exist together in one town by visiting one of the historical mosques in this holy place. Afterwards, you can continue your walk to the local markets, and eventually to the Manikarnika Ghat, the largest cremation ground in the world. In this ghat you can observe people from different parts of the world completing the rituals of their ancestors, while searching for salvation for their souls. This moving scene will bring the tour to an end.
