Arrive in Hanoi

Xin chào (hello) and welcome to Vietnam from Parallels and Meridians. Hope you had a pleasant flight. The day is kept at leisure for you, to get some sleep and relax. Tomorrow we begin our journey into Vietnam’s exotic capital city. Overnight in Hanoi.

 

Day 02

Hanoi

Water puppet theater

Let’s explore the charming city of Hanoi. We will embark on the wonderful day by visiting the imposing marble edifice housing the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum before moving into the wooden stilt house and One Pillar Pagoda, cultural and historic relic built in 1049 and unique for its architectural features followed by Temple of Literaturesite of Vietnam’s first university dating back to the 11th century. We will make the day more interesting by a visit  to Hoan Kiem Lake located in heart of Hanoi. Post this we can visit Hanoi’s busy Old Quarter, a perfect place to interact with the locals. Small shops, food vendors, coffee shops, almost everything can be found here; you can explore this fascinating place as you like, a great way to immediately get deep into the fabric of Vietnamese culture! We end our day by relishing a water puppet show – a unique performance of Vietnam. Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 03

Hanoi - Mai Chau

Countryside drive !

Post Breakfast at the hotel, we will drive to Mai Chau. While in car we can submerge into nature while passing by the countryside with rice fields along the road. En route we shall stop at a local market where we can see the entire Mai Chau Valley and ethnic people trading in this market. After Arriving Mai Chau, we can go for a stroll(or cycle) around the village. Overnight at a local stilt house Mai Chau.

Day 04

Mai Chau - Ninh Binh

Cycling around Tam Coc!

Today, we will enjoy the rural scenery along the road as we drive to Ninh Binh, ancient capital of Vietnam during 10th century. After reaching here, we will start our city exploration by visiting Hoa Lu old citadel. In spite of many feudals and historical conflicts, the citadel has still preserved its heritage with many temples and pagodas. Some of the sanctuaries and tombs have survived over the years and can still be seen today. Later in the day we will take a boat trip and cycle around Tam Coc before heading to the hotel! Overnight in Ninh Binh.

 

Day 05

Ninh Binh - Halong Bay

Let’s cruise!

Today we will be driving to Halong Bay (3kms/15mins) to board a cruise and experience the sights, sounds and smell of Halong. Overnight in Ha Long Bay onboard.

Day 06

Halong - Hanoi - Hue

Glories of  Vietnam!

Wake up early to enjoy the stunning Vietnamese sunrise on the Bay and begin a new day with a Tai Chi session on the sundeck. Post a tempting breakfast you can enjoy coffee and tea with homemade biscuits onboard. Later, we shall visit Titop Island. We can take part in an array of exciting activities: swimming and climbing to the top for a breathtaking view of the bay. Now, we will drive back to Hanoi and stop in the village of Dong Trieu ceramics before flying to Hue. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by our representative who will transfer you to the hotel. Hue is famous for its history & poetry, its amiable inhabitants and cuisines. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this deeply evocative capital of the Nguyen emperors resonates with the glories of imperial Vietnam. Overnight in Hue.

Day 07

Hue

Rickshaw ride on the cards!

Today, we will hit the Imperial Citadel, a place infused with history and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll hop on a Rickshaw to explore the imperial city. Later, we will visit the tomb of Emperor Tu Duc who was the longest sovereign of the Nguyen dynasty. We then head to a pagoda dedicated to the last royal eunuchs of Vietnam. Tu Hieu Pagoda lies in the middle of a hilly forest in the village of Duong Xuan. Thuy Xuan commune is famous for a cemetery dedicated to the remains of castrated royal servants of the Nguyen dynasty. A walk along the famous market of Dong Ba is highly recommended. Rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight in Hue.

Day 08

Hue - Danang - Hoi An

Delightful town!

This morning, we drive down the coast road passing over the spectacular Sea cloud pass to Danang – the biggest port in central Vietnam. Half way between Danang and Hue lies the dramatic Hai Van Pass, the dividing line between the climate zones of North and South Vietnam. We have an exciting day ahead of us as we shall now proceed to Hoi An – a picturesque riverside town South of Danang, the very charming ancient town by the Thu Bon river.  Post this we will head to Sa Huynh Museum – located near the Japanese Covered Bridge, containing exhibitions from the earliest period of Hoi An’s history. We highly recommend you to explore the Japanese covered bridge. Overnight in Hoi An.

 

Day 09

Hoi An

Time to savour some street food!

This morning, we will drive from Hoi An Town to My Son Holy Land, a World Heritage, 50 km Southwest of Hoi An. Afternoon is free for you to relax and enjoy the hotel. You can also take a walk across the ancient town and don’t forget to relish the speciality street food known for a distinctive sharp taste!

 

Day 10

Hoi An - Danang - Ho Chi Minh City

Pearl of the Far East!

Today we will be flying to Ho Chi Minh, the economic capital of Vietnam. In the afternoon, we will do a city tour, starting with the Notre Dame Cathedral, Central post Office and Cho Lon. Later we shall head to Thien Hau Padoga followed by some shopping at Binh Tay market. Overnight at Ho Chi Minh City.

 

Day 11

Ho Chi Minh City – Cai Be

Where the mighty Mekong flows!

Post breakfast, we will depart for Mekong Delta. Upon arrival in Cai Be, we will take a boat to visit Cai Be floating market followed by a transfer to Tan Phong island, where we will take a walk/cycle to visit the local village, passing the local workshops where spring roll rice paper and other handicrafts are made to experience the daily life of Vietnamese! After lunch, we make sure you have a peaceful time introspecting with a small boat road to the canal! Later in the afternoon, you will check in at Ut Trinh homestay and prepare dinner with the host family to have a distinctive dining experience. Overnight at a local homestay.

Day 12

Cai Be

Special fruits of this region!

Savor in the flavor of home made food with the experience of a lifetime as you enjoy breakfast this morning with the host family. Post breakfast, we will take another boat to visit Phuoc Hau village followed by a cycle ride around the village which is the best way to enjoy the local life of this vegetable farm village. You can interact with locals and learn how to harvest vegetables. Later, we head to a floating village and see how they farm catfish. A walk across Vinh Long market to catch a glimpse of this buzzling town is highly recommended. We can also visit the brick kilns to see how pottery products are hand-made and a nursery garden where we can taste special fruits of this regions. Overnight at a local homestay.

Day 13

Cai Be – Ho Chi Minh City

Enjoy the lovely village on foot before we Head back to Ho Chi Minh City. The day is kept at leisure for you, to get some sleep and relax. It is recommended to visit Ben Thanh market, where you can find everything from food, fruits, souvenirs to fabrics, clothes and handicrafts.

Departure from Ho Chi Minh City

Festivals

The tradition and culture of a nation lies in its festivals that are celebrated throughout the year. Here are a list of festivals you can choose from while planning your travel to Vietnam –

Tet festival: This is a festival celebrated towards the end of January to mid-February, and the dates vary every year. It is the most important one for the Vietnamese people, and is celebrated for 7 days; from the 1st to the 7th day of the lunar New Year. During this time people get together and light firecrackers, feast on a lot of food, and make enough noise.

Perfume festival: The festival is celebrated during the month of February or March depending on the 15th day of the 1st month of the Chinese lunar calendar. It is celebrated in the Perfume Pagoda, which is the most famous Buddhist pilgrimage site. Thousands of pilgrims travel to this cave to pray for a happy and flourishing year.

Phu Giay Festival: This festival is celebrated from the 1st to the 10th day of the 3rd month of the Chinese lunar calendar (March-April), paying tribute to Lieu Hanh, a goddess. A lot of different games are played during this time and folk music performances.

Buon Don Elephant Races: In mid-April, there is an elephant race held in the forests near the Sevepoi River, of Buon Don district in the Dak Lak province. The ethnic group called M’Nong participate in this race and are highly skilled in this sector; the race requires one person to steer and another to handle the speed of the elephant.

Buddha’s Birthday: His birthday is celebrated with much zeal and enthusiasm, in the month of May. Buddhist temples are decorated and devotees come fleeing from all across the nation to be a part of this festival.

Mid-Autumn Festival: It is a festival dated back to 3000 years, celebrated in mid-September. It is celebrated in the honour of a legend named Cuoi, who was left alone on the moon, but wants to come back to Earth. Lanterns of all shapes and sizes are lit in every household, street, and shop. There are also several games, firecrackers, cakes, lion dances, and parades during this time.

International Passport

For most trips, your passport will be enough. It must be valid for up to six months after your return trip. Passports can be easily obtained from your municipality, although there may be delays during holiday periods and holidays. Note that the passport is also required for children. For some destinations, it will be mandatory to send us a copy of your passport immediately after booking a trip.

Transport

The road conditions in Vietnam are quite poor on an average, but improving with time. However, it still differs from region to region – highways are extensive in the southern part; roads are not very accessible in the northern part in the monsoons.

Transport is a very significant part of your trip to Vietnam. We ensure the quality of the vehicles and the drivers are trained to show you the best landscapes, rural life, by the side of highways, and be attentive to all your requirements. The local traffic is chaotic, but you will certainly enjoy the journeys with our expert and hospitable drivers. All our trips are inclusive of transfers and sightseeing as per the itinerary contracted and we will not surprise you by asking any additional fees for your small wishes.

The airline and the flight schedules are subject to change. P&M will keep you informed about the latest changes in the schedule, if any.

Land Package

The price in the website are indicative and may change as per the latest amendment given by the hotels or suppliers. However, P&M will honor the rates once they are offered to you and you have made the payment for the package, even partially. In the case of international or domestic flights, the additional airport taxes that are imposed by local authorities shall be passed to you.

It is also possible to book international flights with P&M. Since we have good connections with several airlines, we will be happy to assist you for your requirements.

Weather

The weather is different in every region of Vietnam. Spring (Feb-Apr) and autumn (Aug-Oct) are the best times to visit Vietnam. The temperature is relatively moderate and rainfall is also lighter.

Health

It is always advisable to do a few routine checks before traveling to any destination outside the home country. Below mentioned are a few vaccines that is recommended before traveling to Vietnam:

Credit cards & ATMs

Traveller’s cheques are accepted as well, but with a fee. Most of the hotels, shops, and restaurants; especially in the tourist destinations, credit cards are accepted.

Mobile in Vietnam

You have to get a local sim in Vietnam. The three of the best service providers are Viettel, Mobifone, and Vinafone. And getting a sim card here is very simple and easy.

Gastronomy

The cuisine in Vietnam is somewhat different in every region, and most regions have a character of their own. In the northern part of Vietnam, the dishes are bland; in central Vietnam, the food is more towards the spicy side; and in the south of Vietnam, they prefer their meals to be sweet. Pho is a type of noodle soup, which is a Vietnamese staple, and a must try!

Clothing

Dress code in Vietnam is quite simple and casual. Carry comfortable clothes to suit the weather conditions, and not too revealing. While visiting or entering religious places it is advisable to wear proper covered clothes as a sign of respect.

Electrical outlet

There is no reason for you not to take your electrical items due to electrical outlets; Vietnam markets have adapters you can purchase.

How many beds can we have in a room?

A room will usually have a double bed. Most hotels will be able to add one extra bed.

Some hotels offer interconnected rooms. If they don’t have, we ask them to provide two rooms next to each other or on the same floor.

Can I choose my own set of hotels?

Yes, you can. Just send us your wish list and we will do our best to fulfill your requirements.

What is the category of hotels included in the itinerary on the website?

You will have the option to choose the categories of the hotels you want to stay in. There are a few exceptions, however, some places like villages in Rajasthan or hiking tents in Bhutan will not offer you luxury. We will clearly advice you on this.

What kind of vehicle do you provide?

Generally, this depends on the number of people. We provide cars for two people and micro van for three and more people. All our vehicles have air-conditioning.

Are we sharing the car with someone else?

No. The car is for private use and you will share it only the people you are travelling with.

Does the car stay at my disposal every day?

Can I adjust my budget?

Of course, our experts can share plenty ideas with you, fitting your budget. However, we make sure that quality is never compromised. We immediately inform you with our inability to offer you something that is below standard or of low quality. It is always better to say no than to regret a bad holiday experience.

What is included in the cost of your packages?

Our services start the moment you arrive at your destination, where a representative will be awaiting your arrival. All accommodations, transfers, local flights as well as arranged activities, unless otherwise specified will be included. Our trips are on breakfast-only basis except some special meals like welcome lunch or a special farewell dinner.

Why don’t you offer trips on full board?

We could; however, you will agree with us that everybody has different tastes. Moreover, the local cuisine is also an important aspect of your trip. Why should we charge you extra for some meals in hotels and expensive restaurants, when you can enjoy the spontaneity of discovering restaurants on your own? This is why we intentionally refuse to include all meals in our itineraries.
